I have been wanting to use the Wilton Color Mist with cookie stencils for quite some time now, and was reminded of the technique the other day while perusing one of my favorite cookie blogs. So, while I certainly can't take credit for this decorating technique or idea, I had a lot of fun making it my own.
First, I baked a batch of my favorite sugar cookies. Once they were cooled, I used a food color pen to help determine where the icing needed to go. I love using these pens to assist in the design process!
Next, I applied the royal icing to each cookie, allowing each color to dry before adding the next. (This is where my picture-taking took a major backseat to the project).
Once the royal icing was completely dry, I used a stencil and Wilton Color Mist to create the Easter designs on the top. Unfortunately, due to my bake-on-a-whim personality, I didn't have any cookie stencils on hand, and wasn't able to find any at the local craft store either. Luckily, the regular stencils I found worked just as well.
The last step for these cookies was to add some finishing sprinkle details.
There you have it! I thought these cookies looked pretty impressive but weren't too time-consuming. Plus, stencil options are endless, so you could really personalize these cookies for anyone or any event!
Since these cookies were baked specially for someone, I bravely entered into the realm of cookie shipping. Shipping my cookies has been intimidating to me for some time because I can't stand to think that the cookie recipients might find their package in a crumpled, melted mess. Yikes. While these weren't my first cookie shipment, I am still pretty new to the process and am always nervous to find out how the package arrived.
I am happy to report, however, that each recipient has been very happy with their gifts. I think that definitely makes my shipping method a success, meaning more cute cookie packages in the future!
